Rider Rehab is run by Sally Reid, Chartered Physiotherapist.
At Rider Rehab the aim is to provide a bespoke exercise programme for riders, based on postural assessment and evidence-based screening tests.

Discovering how the body works mechanically during the performance of a movement can identify ‘unhelpful’ or ‘unbalanced’ movement patterns. These patterns can be changed through specific exercise systems and can assist in optimising the horse and rider partnership. By improving rider strength and symmetry, the flow of communication becomes clearer and results in better performances by both rider and horse.

Rider Rehab offers several different Services.

Physiotherapy: Injury diagnosis, treatment, management and advice.

EquiPilates: A system that delivers all the benefits of normal Pilates but is tailored to the rider's needs. It is a form of body conditioning using Pilates principles geared towards making you a better balanced, more effective rider and to be more in harmony with your horse. The resulting greater control over your body will enable you to help the horse rather than hinder it. Being able to focus on, and control, different parts of your body, will enable the application of aids independently, without disturbing the balance of your seat.

Intrinsic Biomechanics Screening: A series of examinations that establishes why the body moves as it does during a particular movement. Joints, muscles and nerves are assessed individually to establish how they might interact and contribute to particular movement patterns. Often the body is, whilst performing a movement, compensating for intrinsic biomechanical faults, and the more we practice those movements, the more we have to compensate, and so the risk of injury increases. The screens identify areas at risk of injury within your neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles and joints). The results help to establish the best exercises that will be of the greatest benefit, and a programme will then be devised to improve the way you move and enable better function. This system has been tried and tested for over 25 years on both Olympic athletes and amateur sports men and women, to the same effect.

Sports Pilates: Recovery from and rehabilitation of sporting injuries can be greatly assisted by practising Pilates exercises. Sports injuries can affect symmetry and alignment, also joint stability and strength, and the Pilates principles are well set to address these issues at all stages of rehabilitation.

Clinics: Rider Assessment Clinics are held regularly at the Happy Hooves Riding Centre in Penrith and benefit from the use of a mechanical horse. They are run jointly by Sally Reid and Dannii Little BHSAPC, an accredited riding instructor and dressage judge. Each clinic consists of a number of 45 minute sessions where problems are analysed and feedback given to the rider.

These clinics have proved very popular so early booking is advised. They are advertised on the Rider Rehab Facebook page.
